For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, or more commonly known as FIRST, is more than just a series of tournaments. It is the world’s leading youth robotics community that is transforming the way young people engage with learning and technology. By providing a platform for students to design, build, and program robots, FIRST teaches essential skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation. As participants navigate challenges and celebrate achievements, they develop a lifelong passion for exploration and creativity, which in turn shapes their future potential and prepares them for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Impact on the Youth

FIRST has many programs that have done amazing things for the robotics communities around the world. For example, the Global FIRST LEGO League program includes 597,000 students aged 4 to 16 from over 90 countries. These students explore STEM education and gain real-world experience, which has a big impact on their learning and development. Since starting in 1989, FIRST has had over 3.2 million youth participants and is now present in 110 countries. In the 2023-2024 period, FIRST held about 4,500 events, where students showcase their skills and creativity which are good skills down the line. Additionally, volunteers from around the world have contributed over 33 million hours of their time to help support these programs. All of this work inspires young people to learn more about science and technology and encourages them to make a difference in their communities.

Conclusion

In conclusion, FIRST has a significant impact on young people and their parents, as they experience a meaningful journey together. It offers hands-on learning that goes beyond building robots, helping students work as teams on real-world problems while gaining important life skills. The program creates a sense of community, allowing participants to make lasting friendships that support their futures. They develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for any career. FIRST also encourages creativity and a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Overall, FIRST effectively combines personal growth with practical skills, preparing young people for future challenges.
